Clare Goodwin studied Art 1996-1998 at the Royal College of Art London - MA Painting, 1993 -1996 at the Winchester School of Art - BA Painting and 1992 - 1993 at the Bournville College of Art & Design - Foundation.
She is also a co-curator of Cafe Gallery Projects in London, a co-founder of K3 Project Space in Zurich and a painting teacher at the F&F Art School in Zurich.
Clare Goodwins paintings seem to be abstract, hard-edge color field paintings at first glance, but are actually based on images of kitchen interiors taken from 70ies magazines. Her work deals with issues such as „identity” and „home” referring back to the artist growing up in a 70ies environment where the kitchen formed the center of family life.
Goodwin expands her research into 70ies aesthetics also into three-dimensional assemblages and video. Combining found and collected items and other objects that she buys for little money in secondhand shops, Clare Goodwin builds strange and unusual assemblages which merit a close investigation.
„With her accumulations of old and used objects, Clare Goodwin builds a parallel universe of the past or some sort of a soul enhanced depot factory” (Oliver Kielmayer, Kunstbulletin, November/December 2005). Her surprising contextual shifts tie the past with the present and indicate a notion of a home that has just passed or may has existed a long time ago.
Goodwin has shown in Switzerland, England, Hong Kong, Canada and elsewhere, received various awards and participated in international residency programs.
